Chesed

smroadChesed in Hebrew means mercy. The Bible uses this word to describe not only God's kindness toward us but more, the forgiveness of our sins.  Within this mercy God separates us from our wrongdoing as far as the East is from the West. -Psalm 103:12

For this reason we strive to be like God, showing mercy and kindness; not because we can earn this grace, this mercy, but because he loved us first.  We have no better example of this then the actions of Jesus.  Picture it, Jesus sitting at the house of a Pharisee.  A woman seeks him out there, finds him and falls at his feet.  Weeping she wets his feet with her tears, she wipes his feet with her hair, and pours perfume on them from an alabaster jar; this would be the most valuable thing that she had.  The bible says that she had lived a life of sin and by her actions we know that she believed that Jesus was the one that would save her.  This Pharisee judged this woman within his heart and Jesus had this to say:

“Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."   -Luke 7:44-47

We are all like this woman.  We go the wrong ways, we go down the wrong roads and Jesus loves us anyway, forgives us and shows us the infinite measure of his mercy.

Here are our stories, the roads that we have traveled and the mercy that we have received abundantly.
