matt-webAbout Me:
I began working in church ministry over 20 years ago as a volunteer High School leader at my home church in Illinois. Since that time, I have also worked as a Mental Health Counselor, a volunteer Junior High leader,
a Youth Pastor, and a summer Pastoral Intern.  I love to see God open up a person's eyes to see what He is doing (and wants to do) in their life. He is truly amazing!

About My Family:
The best thing to happen in my life besides knowing Jesus is meeting my wife Carla.  It has truly been a great and wild ride that I wouldn’t have dreamed possible before our life together.  Our four children are a gift from God and they regularly test my sanity!

Interests/Hobbies:
I love to learn, read, play most any sport, coach soccer and wrestling teams, play my guitars, and care for African Violets. I don’t watch much TV but I have gotten into “Fringe” which just reveals how much of a Sci-Fi geek I am!  Maybe most importantly, I am a Chicago sports fan which I hope will help me make lots of friends during my time in Michigan.

Books:
It seems that I spend my life reading!  Current favorites are:
Prodigal God - Tim Keller; Messy Christianity - Michael Yaconelli; The Body - Chuck Colson; The Church of Irresistible Influence - Robert Lewis; Paradise War - Stephen Lawhead; Lord of the Rings Trilogy – Tolkien; Practicing His Presence - Brother Lawrence

Music:
I like a wide variety of music styles but here are some current favorites:  Marc Cohn, Evanescence, The Fray, Lost and Found, John Mellencamp, Mozart, Rich Mullins, Matt Nathanson, Rodrigo y Gabriella, Rush, Van Morrison, Violet Burning, The Who

Other Favorites:
Restaurant:  Applebee’s or Chili’s are fun for a date with my wife.
Vacation Spot:  Somewhere warm during the winter or at our friends’ cabin in Brainerd, MN.
Scripture Verse:  Galatians 5:1 “For it for FREEDOM that Christ set you free.”
Picture of Heaven: Huge areas of green grass to play soccer and when someone scores, everyone cheers and praises God!

Common Quotes:
"It isn't where you start; it’s where you end."
"Keep running.  I'm not tired yet!" (As Coach Matt)
“Have some compassion; everyone has their vice.”
"Have fun storming the castle!" - Princess Bride
